Improvements to Support the a9's Signature Speed
The mechanical shutter on the a9 II has been replaced to complement the super-fast 20 FPS electronic shutter. To support this, the buffer has also been improved slightly as has live view, which now offers 60 FPS for almost no display lag. Sony maintains outstanding AF performance in this camera, with 693 phase detection and 425 contract detection AF points covering 93% of the image. Even under poor lighting conditions, the a9 II delivers responsive Fast Hybrid AF and 4D Focus for incredibly accurate subject tracking. A special AI recognition algorithm can swiftly process colors, patterns, distances, and face/eye data from the image sensor to increase your success rate in capturing sharp images of even the fastest sports and wildlife subjects.
Connectivity and Workflow Advancements
High-speed data transfer is available thanks to a LAN terminal supporting 1000BASTE-T. Assign up to 9 FTP servers for prompt data delivery and enjoy 5 GHz-band WiFi in addition to 2.4 GHz. A newly-added USB-C connection can transfer large, uncompressed raw images smoothly. These expanded tethering and transfer options are ideal for studio and field shooters alike.
Build Quality Benefits
With better weather sealing, a more comfortable grip, and strategic texturing, the Sony a9 II is as rugged as it is comfortable. An updated multi-interface hot shoe enables use with more accessory types, including digital audio accessories. Both card slots support UHS-II instead of just one and the in-body image stabilization is improved over the prior model. Battery life overall is also better.
Like with the original, the Sony a9 II is a superb option for just about any project, both video or still. It offers 4K, slow motion, interval recording, and more. With its fast shooting speeds and responsive AF system, it is particularly ideal for weddings, events, sports, and wildlife.
